Reports, Updates, and Informational Items

  • EPG Secures Grant for Social-Emotional Screener
Mrs. Buss reported EPG is 1 of 5 districts in the state of Illinois awarded a grant to partner with Quincy Public Schools and the Illinois Children’s Healthcare Foundation (ILCHF) to support the purchase and implementation of a social-emotional screener. A team of EPG staff will partner with the other schools, QPS, and ILCHF over the next ten months to pilot a screening tool, share information with the community, and plan how to provide support for our schools in the areas of most need.

Board Meeting Discussions

  • 2018-19 School Calendar
Mr. Kurz shared the districts’ students will make up 5 of the 6 canceled days. Students’ last day of attendance this year will be June 4th. The Teacher Institute will be on June 5th.

  • 2019-20 School Calendar
Mr. Kurz recommended “Option 2” as the calendar for the 2019-20 school year. Students first day of school will be on Monday, August 19th. They discussed the fact there is some pending legislation that may change the requirements to the school calendar. In the event those changes are needed, a modified calendar will be brought to the Board of Education.

  • HS Parking Lot Project
The Board of Education discussed the project to repair the parking lot north of the high school, including drainage issues near the football bleachers and/or press box. Pilot holes revealed the need to establish a new base for a parking lot. The district will put the project out to bid which would include providing a concrete modified subgrade and an asphalt surface. There will be alternate bids solicited to determine prices of including the road that exits to the west of the HS, as well as a concrete parking lot.
