State Bound Wrestlers
EPG had four sectional qualifiers this season, making it out of one of the toughest regionals in the state. We ended the two day sectional with three state qualifiers. In the past six years, there have been 13 state qualifiers in the Titan Wrestling program. At 106, #7 state ranked Jaime Gregory, defeated the #8 ranked wrestler in the semifinal and lost to #6 ranked wrestler in the final. Gregory is a senior with a record of 35-8. Kain Jackson, a junior with a record of 36-11, lost his first round match to #8 ranked Munoz 0-15. Jackson had to start the second day with a first round wrestle back against Carson Schaeffer of Leroy, last week's regional champion. Jackson had to wrestle 8 1/2 minutes to win in an overtime tie breaker to stay alive. After winning his quarterfinal wrestle back, he had to face Munoz again. This time coming away with a 7-1 victory. Kain placed fourth and was 3-2 for the tournament. At 145, Kaleb Featherly was 2-2 at the sectional, losing in his semifinal match to #4 ranked Robinson of Kewanee 3-5. Featherly then lost his semifinal wrestle back to #10 ranked Larson of Illini Bluffs. Kaleb ended the year 36-10. Dylan Reeves a junior with a record of 35-12, won his semifinal against #7 ranked Bowman of St. Joe Ogden 10-6. In the final against last week's regional champion, Reeves pushed Shobe from Clinton the entire six minutes but came away with a 4-5 loss. All three qualifiers will wrestle in the first round this Thursday at 1pm, at the State Farm Center in Champaign.
2017 Kindergarten Screening
We will be continuing the screening process for ALL incoming kindergarten students in the El Paso-Gridley School District for the fall of 2017. If your child will be eligible for kindergarten in the fall of 2017, they must first go through the screening process before they are allowed to register.
- You will be allowed to sign-up for the screening time at the Kindergarten Preview Night on February 2 at 6:00 at the Jefferson Park Gym for El Paso and Gridley students.
- You MUST have an appointment to have your child screened and ALL students have to go through the screening process before they can register and enter kindergarten.
- There will be two screening dates: Thursday, March 2 from 4:00p.m.-7:00 p.m. and Friday, March 3 from 8:00a.m. - 3:00 p.m. at Jefferson Park School. This screening is for El Paso and Gridley students.
You may also call Jefferson Park at 527-4405 or Gridley Grade School at 747-2360 to schedule an appointment AFTER the preview date. The following information is needed when you call: child’s legal name, parent’s name, and child’s date of birth, address and phone number.
The screening process is very important for the benefit of the students and parents, as well as the staff. By doing the screenings in the spring, parents will have a better understanding as to what their child’s strengths are as well as areas in which the child may need some help. This also gives our staff some much needed information as to what areas will need to be concentrated on with the students during their most important first year of school. We also need to have every student come through screening as it helps the district in planning the necessary space and staff needs for the upcoming school year. In this way, any additional staff that may need to be hired can be done early enough to ensure higher quality teachers.
Registration for kindergarten and all students will be held in August. Dates have not been set yet. All incoming kindergarten students must have their birth certificate, up-to-date shot and physical records and been through the screening process.
